Northdoor and System i

Over the last 19 years Northdoor have implemented a large variety of projects based on the System i platform (originally called System 36 & 38, then AS/400, then iSeries). In the last six or seven years, IBM has developed the platform to support multiple operating systems and thereby act as a consolidation platform and offer the traditional benefits of System i to the management of other environments. For example at Platform Home Loans, we worked with the client to consolidate 4 iSeries, 10 windows and 2 linux servers all onto one iSeries and deliver improved application performance, increased flexibility and reduced cost of ownership to the business. At Den Norske Bank we worked with the client to develop an integrated System i and Windows Blade Center solution to support their two-tier banking application. The compact solution delivered significant application performance improvement as well as shrinking the floor space and power requirements which are now an important consideration. Having virtualised and consolidated systems, the next step is often to implement a High Availability solution to protect these mission critical systems. At Tradex we worked with the client to implement a second iSeries system with transactional level mirroring of the insurance application on their production system.
