Policy Minder is a policy management tool, designed for the IBM System i (i Series/AS400), that aids in security compliance. Prior to a product like Policy Minder, the only way to prove to your auditing firm that your systems were in compliance with your stated security policy was to
perform a manual check-up looking for any deviation from corporate policy. This manual check-up could take several hours as you ran reports and queries and manually compare the values against established security policy. The check-up, in combination with the out-of compliance issues that would require attention, quickly absorb much of a system administrator’s time. Once tasks are complete, anytime an auditor asks if you are in compliance you would have to do the same routine all over again.

With Policy Minder, a company can compare current OS/400 security configuration versus corporate security policy standard to determine compliance. This comparison covers the area of security system values, user profiles, object authorities, TCP/IP start-up, exit points and
more. Through a printed report or a screen inquiry, system administrators can determine if any security relevant settings on the OS/400 system are out of compliance. Then, for many items checked by Policy Minder, system administrators can choose to let Policy Minder .Fix-It. and return the non-compliant items to the established security policy. It is this feature that puts the system administrator back in control of the security implementation in a powerful and efficient way.
