Fortis Bank in the UK is a specialist provider of cross-border financing and cash management services. The bank offers a full range of services to midmarket companies including Trade Finance, Treasury, Acquisition Finance, Property Finance, Leasing, Invoice Finance and Current Account Banking. Fortis Bank UK is headquartered in the City of London and employs 1,500 people.
Fortis Bank UK has four business-critical applications that use Oracle databases: a bills payment system linked to a financial document
management system; a trading system for both internal users and clients; a trade settlement system; and a trade matching system. Unplanned outage on any of these systems could be very damaging for Fortis Bank UK, both financially and to its reputation with clients. The bank identified its lack of internal skills in Oracle as a potential business risk, and decided to engage an external IT specialist.
