Long-term IT consultancy allows provider and client 'to think outside the box'
In a detailed article first published in the Sunday Business Post in December 2008, David Fitzsimons, of Northdoor Ireland, outlines what he has found to be the best practices for companies who are considering engaging in long-term IT consultancy.
Drawing on his many years of experience as an IT consultant David notes that organisations should have a clear plan at the outset "they must understand what their requirements are and how the technology can deliver benefits to them". "Organisations must proactively manage their supplier during project implementation, ensuring that their own resources are scheduled in accordance with any agreed plan," said Fitzsimons. Confidence in the supplier's ability to deliver is vital, a supplier who is genuinely prepared to invest in the project and the relationship by providing an 'on the table financial commitment' should not be overlooked. "At Northdoor we put 20 per cent on the table and allow the client assess our team's performance," he said.
