The Challenge

Freeview, which provides 48 subscription-free digital television and 24 radio channels has played a leading role in the successful adoption of digital terrestrial television in the UK. The Freeview organisation, owned by Arqiva, BBC, BSkyB, Channel 4 and ITV, markets and licenses Freeview and the Freeview brand. After six years of operation, Freeview had grown sufficiently to leave shared offices and establish an independent presence. It turned to Northdoor to design, build and configure a completely new IT infrastructure for its new home. This included the migration of all company data over a single weekend and then the ongoing management of these IT systems.

The Northdoor Solution

  • A complete turnkey IT infrastructure
  • Remote and on site management for Windows, Exchange, Desktops and network

The design of a new network, server and desktop infrastructure posed some real challenges, not least understanding the systems demand of the new organisation which relies heavily on media, communications and remote working. After performing a design study Northdoor recommended Gigabit network connectivity, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft Exchange 2007 running on IBM and Lenovo hardware.

Benefits

  • Significant savings compared to an in-house capability
  • Freed managers to focus on their business tasks
