Blueprint Two case study: How Chaucer Group went live with Alternate

Northdoor, in partnership with WCL, helped Chaucer Group go live with the Alternate messaging solution. This enables Chaucer to process previously unsupported Velonetic messages and safeguard business continuity during the London Market transformation programme.

Chaucer Group is a leading speciality (re)insurance group, operating globally via Lloyd’s of London and the company markets.

Challenge

The London Market’s Blueprint Two programme is transforming central market messaging infrastructure. From Phase One go-live, many existing message types generated by Velonetic will no longer be supported. For firms like Chaucer, this created two critical risks:

  • Business disruption – potential inability to write certain lines of business.

  • High cost and complexity – significant upgrades to internal policy systems would otherwise be required.

Chaucer needed a fast, reliable, and cost-effective solution to maintain operations and prepare for future Blueprint Two phases.

Solution

Working in partnership, Northdoor and WCL delivered Alternate. The solution:

  • Processes ACORD eBOT and eCOT messages from Velonetic via ACORD4ALL.

  • Updates messages into the latest ACORD versions.

  • Translates messages into formats compatible with Chaucer’s internal policy systems.

  • Built with scalability in mind, ensuring readiness for Blueprint Two, Phase Two

This approach allows Chaucer to access the benefits of full digital adoption with minimal impact on their current systems.

  • Seamless go-live: Chaucer went live with Alternate ahead of Blueprint Two, Phase One.
