Our CSR commitment

Here at Northdoor, we are dedicated to instilling strong ethical and sustainable values across our business, encompassing environmental and sustainable practices and a robust commitment to our corporate social responsibility (CSR).

We are aware of the need to address climate change, and as a team, we are passionate about adapting as we evolve to ensure we have a positive social, environmental, and economic impact. By becoming a more sustainable and socially responsible company, we are reducing our environmental impact, improving the working environment for employees, and delivering greater productivity, which makes a difference to our planet and society.

Here are some examples of the initiatives that we have been working on in 2024, which we will carry through into 2025:

CSR initative Electric Vehicle Octopus

New Electric Car Salary Sacrifice scheme

Each EV cuts business emissions by an estimated 2.5 tons of CO2 every year – while delivering significant benefits to employees

In 2024, we launched a new electric car salary sacrifice scheme. This has enabled us to offer employees a seamless transition to electric vehicles (EVs), which reduces our environmental impact, enables employees to access new cars and has lowered administration and tax costs for both the business and employees.

Like cycle-to-work but for cars, our salary sacrifice EV scheme allows employees to deliver zero tail pipe emissions in a low-cost, tax efficient way. In just one year, over a quarter of employees have taken up the scheme and feedback has been incredibly positive. Compared to our old company car scheme administration has massively reduced, plus everyone in the company, rather than a select few, is now eligible for the scheme.

Ben Potter – Business Operations Manager, Northdoor
“This is a great employee benefit. Not only am I saving significantly on my monthly car payments through salary sacrifice, but I’m also doing my part for the environment. It’s fantastic to work for a company that prioritises both employee benefits and sustainability.”

Sharon Kauffman – Marketing Manager, Northdoor
“The scheme goes beyond just offering an electric car—it’s delivered a complete package and fantastic savings on my electricity bill.  From maintenance to insurance, everything is included, which takes so much stress off my shoulders. This feels like a perk that genuinely values employees and makes a real difference to our lives and the environment.”

Amir Mirfakhraee, Client Account Manager
“I was completely surprised about how much driving an electric car saves the planet.  This alone is extremely rewarding, not to mention being a cheaper alternative to petrol.”

Tom Burke, Octopus Vehicles
“It is a pleasure working with Northdoor and James Cherry to help their employees decarbonise and make the move over to Electric Vehicles, saving almost 16 tonnes of CO2 through salary sacrifice so far!”

Partnering to Support Charitable Causes

Since 2012, Hackney Foodbank has distributed over 864,632kg of food and household items to people in crisis

The cost-of-living crisis is exposing the severity of food poverty in the UK. Millions are being pushed below the breadline as food prices soar, with many struggling to feed themselves and their families. This is one of the reasons we have partnered with Hackney Foodbank, a voluntary organisation and member of the Trussell Trust Foodbank Network, that relies on the kindness of the local community to keep its doors open. Hackney Foodbank works with partners and community organisations to provide relevant support, and we are one of those partners.

This has enabled us to offer our staff volunteering opportunities to spend time helping prepare food packages to distribute to Hackney Foodbank warehouses. We work side by side with permanent volunteers, helping this local charity support those most in need.

“We are so very grateful for the donation and volunteering support from Northdoor. Demand has increased 30% in a year so support like this makes such a difference. Our foodbank is currently supporting around 750 people per week – making that happen is a huge operation.”

Every Little Helps….

Recycling aluminum cans can save up to 95% of the energy required to produce new ones

We have also made a concerted effort to reduce our energy consumption and waste. By migrating our on-premises infrastructure to an efficient and optimised cloud environment, we have significantly reduced our energy usage and maintenance effort, whilst also providing remote working solutions for our employees.

Not only are the energy consumption costs far more efficient than having our IT team maintain a small server room, but the economies of scale and cost reductions speak for themselves – as a result of this, along with other energy saving initiatives, our energy usage has reduced by 48% since 2021.

We have also removed a significant amount of single-use plastic. Plastic water bottles that typically end up in incinerators have been replaced with aluminium cans, which can be almost infinitely recycled and reused. At the same time we have replaced plastic cups with paper or ceramic mugs.
