Northdoor and The Salvation Army security award recognises cyber defence excellence

Northdoor plc and The Salvation Army are delighted to announce that their shared security project has won the prestigious Security Project of the Year at the annual Computing Security Awards. The awards ceremony took place at the Hilton London Tower Bridge. The project received recognition for its outstanding impact.
Chosen above a number of other outstanding security projects, the judging panel recognised Northdoor and The Salvation Army for the huge impact their collaboration had on the charity’s ability to secure sensitive data.

Challenges facing the charity sector
Over the past couple of years, cybercriminals have increasingly targeted the charity sector. The Salvation Army was no exception. Senior executives faced active targeting. Vulnerabilities appeared in the supply chain. Employees struggled with security protocols.
The task of securing the organisation was vast. Spread across 700 locations with 2,500 laptops and 250 servers, the project was complex. The internal IT team needed a top IT security solution but lacked access to endless internal resources.
Northdoor’s security implementation
Northdoor worked closely with The Salvation Army team and implemented a multilayered security system using a variety of solutions, including Panorays, a supply chain security solution. Despite the issues facing the teams, the security upgrade project was a huge success. It protected data, reassured and educated employees, and protected senior management.

AJ Thompson, CCO at Northdoor plc, collected the award alongside Miguel Fiallos, Chief Information Officer, and Jon Harrex, Head of Information Security, from The Salvation Army He commented:
“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this prestigious prize. You obviously do not start a project with awards in mind, but to have got the recognition from a panel of judges is fantastic for the teams who have worked so hard and brilliantly, both here at Northdoor and at The Salvation Army. Working alongside Panorays has been a pleasure, and we are so pleased that they will receive recognition for their solution.
Richard Hartill, Client Manager at Northdoor plc, commented:
“The threat to the charity sector is only going to increase in the coming months. Cybercriminals have no hesitation in targeting organisations that provide crucial services to some of the most vulnerable members of the population. Unfortunately, it is now critical for them to protect themselves.
“With a lack of internal resources and complex supply chains, this can seem like an impossible task to some. What we have managed to prove with this project is that good security is achievable when you work with the right partners and implement best-of-breed solutions.
“We’re delighted that this has got such great recognition and we look forward to continuing our relationship with The Salvation Army.”
